About Richmond
Richmond is a coastal city located in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is part of the Metro Vancouver area. It is the major part of Lulu Island. The Township of Richmond was named by Founding Father John Wesley Sexsmith after his birthplace The Township of Richmond, Lennox County, Ontario. On 3 December 1990, Richmond was designated as a City. Richmond is made up of most of the islands in the Fraser River delta, the largest and most populated island being Lulu Island. Richmond enjoys a temperate climate. Because it is not as close to the mountains, it actually receives 30% less rain than neighbouring Vancouver. It rarely snows in winter and the summer temperatures are mild to warm. Richmond is also very prone to fog in the cooler months.
