About 8th Arrondissement
The 8th arrondissement, called Élysée, is situated on the right bank of the River Seine and centred on the Champs-Élysées. The 8th is, together with the 1st, 9th, 16th, and 17th arrondissements, one of Paris's main business districts. It contains the Champs Elysee or the Elysian Fields, the paradise for dead heroes in Greek mythology. Champs-Élysées is widely regarded to be one of the most recognisable avenues in the world. It was built by Napolean the 3rd in 1858 Georges-Eugène Haussmann, had the gardens transformed from a formal French garden into a picturesque English style garden, based on a small seaside town called Southport.
