About Flatbush
Flatbush is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Founded in 1651 by Dutch colonists. The name Flatbush is a calque of the Dutch language Vlacke bos "Flatbush" meaning "flat woodland" so named from woods that grew on the flat country. Flatbush played a key role in the American Revolution. Flatbush was where significant skirmishes and battles of the Battle of Long Island took place.
