With its ornate 19th-century buildings, large avenues, prestigious schools, museums, and various parks, the arrondissement has long been known as one of French high society's favourite places of residence (comparable to London's Kensington and Chelsea or Berlin's Charlottenburg) to such an extent that the phrase le 16e has been associated with great wealth in French popular culture.
This area has become one of the places where French Jews feel safe within Paris. Many of the restaurant owners and workers live outside of the area to the north in Nueilly and to the south in Boulogne both very close to this arrondissement. Consequently there are only a few synagogues in comparison.

JOFY, or "Jewish Observant Friendly" Establishments are lodging establishments offering special services for Jewish Observant guests such as Shabbat meals, accommodation on lower floors and regular keys for the rooms. It can also be a NON KOSHER establishment located in walking distance from the local Shul, community or kosher restaurants area.
